Cross-post from the Digital Fellows Blog:
Exciting news!
To follow up on my last post, the Digital Fellows will be hosting a series of workshops this semester. The goal of our workshop series is to broaden the number of students and faculty members that use digital tools to enhance their research. We won’t just be introducing you to software and websites; we’ll be suggesting new, digital solutions to ongoing research problems.
Our workshops throughout the semester will have many focuses, yet they will all revolve around obstacles we encounter while doing research:
How do I find or create a research community with those that share my interests?
How can I collaborate with others in my field?
How can I present my findings in new formats that better communicate my research goals?
How do I incorporate multimedia and metadata into my research in an intuitive way?
How do I manage my files and citations across several workstations?
How can I approach older texts in novel ways?
We hope to provide solutions to many of these questions throughout the semester – or at least point you in the right direction to find your own solutions!
We hope that you’ll join us for our first workshop:
Social Media and Academia: Creating Digital Research Communities. Wednesday, February 13th 2013 – 6:30-8:30pm; Room C196.01
This workshop will introduce various aspects of social media as solutions or initiatives for creating communities around research. We’ll explore how to use the CUNY Commons, WordPress, Twitter, Tumblr, and Google Groups to find or create online research communities across CUNY and other universities. The workshop will be hosted by Andrew G. McKinney and yours truly.
If you would like to attend the workshop, please RSVP to: gc.digitalfellows@gmail.com.
